ILACADA Student Award Nomination Guidelines
PurposeThe purpose of the ILACADA Student Award is to recognize and celebrate an outstanding student from the State of Illinois who demonstrates potential to further advance and give back to the academic advising profession. The chosen individual will receive paid registration plus funding, up to $250 (in reimbursements towards travel and lodging), to support their attendance at the annual ILACADA conference that is held in-person in the fall semester. This individual will receive a free one-year membership to ILACADA which includes being invited to the spring virtual log-in conference (for free) and the Brown Bag sessions within their award year’s cycle. Nominations for the ILACADA Student Award could be a self-nomination or a nomination/recommendation from another person at the institution where the student studies. Nominations should provide evidence of the nominees’ outstanding potential to provide service to their institution and to the advising profession as a whole. Preference for this award will be given to an individual who is a full-time student. While part-time students are still encouraged to apply or be nominated, this award is designed for individuals who are primarily students. The amount of funding available may change each year depending on ILACADA’s budget and the funding amount approved by the ILACADA Executive Board, including the Treasurer and the Awards and Grants Chair. Applicant/Awardee Requirements: The nominee must be a current senior college student or graduate student at a higher education institution in the State of Illinois. The nominee must not be a full-time employee at a higher education institution. For this particular award, the awardee must also submit a copy of their unofficial transcript with personal/private information, such as an address, redacted. Official transcripts will not be required as they may display personal/private information. Selections by Priority Deadline: The ILACADA Awards and Grants Selection Committee, led by the Awards and Grants Chair, will review all applications submitted by the priority deadline each semester, determining the awardee(s) based on the overall application. Applications submitted by the priority deadline will be reviewed immediately following the close date. Applications will not be reviewed before the priority deadline. All applicants will be contacted with information about the decision, and those receiving funding will be put in contact with the ILACADA Treasurer to disperse the reimbursement amount awarded. Selections After Priority Deadline: Applications submitted after the priority deadline will only be reviewed if funds are still remaining after all priority applications have been reviewed and any grants awarded. Information will be provided on the ILACADA website and ILACADA members will be notified about awardees, remaining funds, or if applications are no longer being accepted during a particular period.
